I corrupted a user profile on Windows 7, and had two things happen: First, right after typing the password, the screen would change to Welcome then quickly to Logging Off, and I couldn’t get in.
Then, once I managed to delete the c:\users\profile that was corrupt, Windows 7 would log that user in with a Temp profile every time. Here’s how I fixed it:
- Log in as a local administrator with a working profile
- Open Regedit >> HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
- There’s a series of subfolders. Find one with a subkey ProfileImagePath that matches the folder of the deleted profile, i.e. c:\users\profile
- Delete that entire folder, i.e. the S-1-5-21-092309329083298032093209 or whatever number
Dunno if that works for you; but it worked for me.
